Seventh grade Computer Studies is also a 12 week elective course. In seventh grade the goal is to continue to build on their computer skills and introduce them to some technology careers. We begin the class by reviewing some of the basics that were covered in sixth grade so all students have the opportunity to remember the main skills that were covered in sixth grade and so any student who did not have Computer studies in sixth grade will quickly learn the essential basics. After the covering the basics we cover a brief history of technology incorporating reading and summarizing. We then learn the parts inside the computer. Students are placed in pairs and given an old computer to open up and take the computer apart to learn how the inside parts work together. Students then get to learn to work with a basic animation program where they will create a mini-cartoon. We then move on to a more advanced software that allows students to be creative and learn about video game creation and how hard it is to create a video game. Students will have the opportunity to create a basic game of their own and as a class we will get to play students game. Students will get an introduction to web site design and will create a small web site that will not be published on the Internet. Students will also work on the Internet, run a hot dog stand business and work on their keyboarding skills.
