Mathematics

This year we are using a program called Connected Mathematics.

Connected Mathematics is a complete mathematics curriculum for grades 6-7-8 that helps students develop understanding of important concepts, skills, procedures and ways of thinking and reasoning in number sense, geometry, measurement, algebra, probability and statistics.

Students entering Connected Mathematics at grade 6 need to have a solid understanding of whole numbers, some understanding of the part-whole interpretation of fractions, of decimal place value and some familiarity with geometry and measurement.

To succeed in Connected Mathematics, it is important that students have time outside of class to practice their skills and deepen their understanding. Homework is an important part of learning mathematics, and it allows students to take some responsibility for their won learning.
