Physical Education and Health Course Descriptions:
P.E.
The ultimate purpose of any physical education program is to guide children into being physically active for a lifetime. Our classes will contribute to the understanding and knowledge of a healthy lifestyle and emphasize safe and cooperative physical activity practices. In our Physical education classes, students will use problem solving, goal setting, and cooperative learning strategies by way of various games and sports.
Health
The purpose of the Adams 12 Five Star Health curriculum is to teach intellectual, psychological, social, and physiological dimensions which allow students to make informed decisions affecting their personal, family, and community well being.
6th Grade Year-long P.E. - In 6th grade, the focus is on learning skills required for participation in a variety of sports and other physical activities through implement handling and lead-up games.
6th Grade Health Rotation - In sixth grade Health, students will spend three weeks learning about Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Character Education.
7th Grade Trimester-long P.E. - Seventh grade is a transition year where students demonstrate their acquisition of skill competencies and lead-up games develop into actual game situations. Students are introduced to official games rules as well.
7th Grade Trimester-long Health - In seventh grade Health, students will spend twelve weeks learning about First Aid, Growth & Development (Puberty), and Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs.
8th Grade Trimester-long P.E. – By eighth grade, students are primarily participating in game situations and demonstrating their understanding of game rules, positions, skills, and sportsmanship in preparation for high school physical education.
8th Grade Trimester-long Health - In eighth grade Health, students will spend twelve weeks learning about the Health Triangle (Emotional/Mental, Social, and Physical Health), Human Growth & Development (Male / Female Reproductive Systems), and Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs.
